A Wedding in Copenhagen

This wedding in Copenhagen was the fourth time I had photographed within the same extended group of friends. Over the years I had photographed different couples from their circle, so arriving in the city felt less like turning up to a job and more like joining a familiar group again. Seeing the same faces, now celebrating another wedding together, created an easy atmosphere from the start.

The ceremony took place in Haveselskabet’s Garden, a quiet green space tucked inside the city. The gardens have a calm, almost hidden feel to them, with winding paths, old trees and open lawns that make the whole setting feel relaxed and intimate. It suited the tone of the day perfectly, giving the ceremony a sense of privacy even though it was right in the middle of Copenhagen.

Before the Ceremony

Before guests gathered, the couple met for a first look in the garden. It was a simple moment, just the two of them among the trees before everything officially began. These quieter parts of the day often feel the most honest, when the excitement of what is about to happen really starts to sink in.

From there they walked together through the garden to meet their friends and family waiting nearby. The anticipation built slowly as they approached, with guests turning to see them arrive and the atmosphere shifting from calm to celebration.

The Celebration

After the ceremony the mood lifted quickly. Confetti filled the air as the couple made their way back through the garden, guests laughing and trying to time their throws just right. Moments like that always feel slightly chaotic but full of energy, which often makes them some of the most memorable photographs from the day.

Later in the evening one of the moments everyone will probably remember most happened just before the dancing began, when the couple’s grandparents joined in for a round of tequila shots. It was unexpected, slightly chaotic, and exactly the sort of moment that captures the spirit of a wedding where everyone feels included.

A Day That Felt Effortless

The whole day carried that relaxed Copenhagen style. Guests arrived on bicycles or wandered in from nearby streets, outfits were stylish but understated, and the celebration moved easily from garden ceremony to evening party without feeling overly formal.

For me, returning to photograph another wedding within this group made the experience even more enjoyable. Weddings are always about the couple at the centre of the day, but they are also about the people around them. Watching this group gather again for another celebration made the whole day feel familiar in the best possible way.
